Dear Friends
Good morning - and what a lovely morning
And yet - one’s heart goes out to the people of the western United States whose houses and forests are being destroyed by fire and climate change is probably one of the main causes. While we remember them we must also pray for the migrants on Lesbos who lost what little they had in their recent fire.
Did you watch the David Attenborough programme on BBC1 last night? It pulled no punches, echoing in many respects what Pope Francis has been saying for years - the people on this planet are living in a way which is unsustainable. And we in the affluent west and north of the planet are consuming more than we need at the expense of those in the south and east.
If you didn’t get chance to watch it, please try to on ‘catch up’.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom. As the Pope constantly tells us, we can make a difference in the little choices we make:
- not wasting food
- watching how much energy we consume
- avoiding plastic especially single use plastic
- avoid waste of any kind
We know the arguments - let’s do it.
One little tip that my niece suggested: when disposing of the now almost compulsory face masks cut the ear loops; there is evidence that animals and birds are being snared in them.
And if you ge chance today, stop and give thanks to God for our wonderful world - even hum the Louis Armstrong tune (my Dad’s favourite)
"What A Wonderful World"
I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them bloom
For me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces
Of people going by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying
"I love you"
I hear babies cry
I watch them grow
They'll learn much more
Than I'll never know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Oh yeah
St Joseph, pray for us
Every blessing
Fr John
