A message from Fr John

Dear Friends
Good morning
Day One
What is prayer like for you? Could it be a time of exploration and discovery?
Following on from yesterday, is it a time for listening and hearing?
One image that might help is that of a young husband or wife studying their partner’s words and silences and so entering their thought and heart. Is our prayer a time for listening to our own desire to enter God’s thought and heart? A time for giving our imagination full rein? For letting our imagination, our desires, our hearts reach out to the One who really loves us unquestioningly?
Today’s Gospel is Luke 9: 46 - 50
Put yourself in that situation - what do you see and feel
- the struggle between the disciples - like any struggle for who is in the right, who’s the most important
- Jesus gently challenges their squabbles by taking a child - confounding the adult need for power structures
- he welcomes the one who has no voice - who are the voiceless in our lives, even in our parish
- who are the least among us
How does the story touch you?
Can you feel the squabbles of the disciples?
Can you hear the voice of Jesus speaking to them?
What do you think their reaction might be?
How are you reacting?
Enjoy your prayer
St Joseph, companion on our journey, pray for us
Every blessing
Fr John
