A Mothers Day message from Father John

Posted on: 22/03/2020

Dear Friends
Every blessing and prayers today for all our mothers, alive here or in heaven.
My intention as I offer Mass today will be for our mothers especially those from whom we are separated.
It is rather strange to be celebrating Mass on my own in an empty church but the experience is producing different kinds of reflections. I hope to share some of those as the days and weeks continue.
The opening Sign of the Cross is a poignant reminder of how many of our parishioners are sharing in the cross of Jesus as he offers his suffering in love for all humankind. Let us keep each other, especially the vulnerable, in our prayers.
The first welcome - The Lord be with You - has become a very different kind of prayer with no one there to respond. However, I have been very aware that at that moment the congregation is far wider than those present - all people are present to the divine presence whether they go to church or not.
As you watch the Mass on-line or read the prayers of the Mass, be aware that you are not on your own - we are all one in the Body of Christ.
On a practical note, if you are able to share any food with those who are isolated or who simply cannot get out, there are boxes at the back of church for your donations. Active parishioners and the SVP will ensure that they go where they are most needed.
May the prayers and intercession of St Joseph give us strength and protection
Every blessing
Fr John
