Laudato Si

Posted on: 14/08/2021

We are pleased to welcome Dr Emma Gardner to our Masses this weekend. She is a long-time member of the
parish and is now working for the Diocese, leading our thinking and action on climate change. The Laudato Si garden and
the new woodland at Wardley are just two examples of how we might all respond to the challenge, especially as laid down
by Pope Francis. He is rather unnerving in the questions he poses: 'In any discussion about a proposed venture (business
decisions which affect people and the environment) a number of questions need to be asked in order to discern whether or
not it will contribute to genuine integral development. What will it accomplish? Why? Where? When? How? For whom? What
are the risks? What are the costs? Who will pay those costs and how?'

And it's not just other people! He says, 'Human beings (we) while capable of the worst, are also capable of rising above
themselves, choosing again what is good, and making a new start, despite their mental and social conditioning'.
