This week, the president of every Bishops’ Conference in the world and Superiors of Religious Orders are attending a conference in Rome. Its aim is:
For all bishops to become aware of the tragedy of abuse and the suffering of the victims. From this will arise a strong sense of responsibility on the part of bishops, both individually and collectively and then on to the wider community of the Church.
The Pope wants all bishops to know what they need to do, what the procedures are and what tasks need to be accomplished leading to mutual accountability at all levels of the Church. In this way the Church’s credibility and people’s trust in the Church might be recuperated.
